Dry eye is a multi-factorial disease of the tears and ocular surface that results in symptoms of discomfort, visual disturbance, and tears film instability with potential damage to the ocular surface.
Dry Eye disease is accompanied by increased osmolarity of the tear film and inflammation of the ocular surface.
Artelac Advanced active ingredient is Na-Hyaluronate 0.2%, a biomolecule that already is present in many body tissues. Immunologic tolerability of Artelac Advanced therefore very high.
Artelac Advanced has a viscoelastic structure and excellent mucoadhesive properties that prolongs the ocular surface residence. It helps in the epithelial healing processes with its mechanical effect on the surface.
Artelac Advanced also has a high Pseudoplasticity property index due to it 0.2% concentration, and the Viscosity of Hyaluronic Acid adjusts to eyelids movements.
When the eye blinks, the viscosity decreases and allows the spreading of hyaluronic acid and the lubrification of the ocular surface. In between blinks, the viscosity increases and produces longer contact time with the ocular surface.
This adds to it good mechanical protective power for ocular surface as the distribution of Sodium Hyaluronate is even over the entire surface of the cornea.
Water-tank effect of Artelac Advanced allows increased hydration of the corneal epithelium:
Hyaluronic Acid is capable of holding a large water volume and releasing it gradually leading to good hydration of the corneal epithelium.
Hyaluronic Acid’s mucus like properties are responsible for fixing the tear film to the epithelial surface.
Long lasting relief :
Hyaluronic Acid’s bioadhesivity produces a more stable tear film: BUT is significantly increased 3 hours after instillation.
Artelac Advanced is also very well tolerated. This is because Artelac Advanced is;
- Safe and Non cytotoxic**
- Has suitable concentration of 0.2% HA
- Preservative free
- Compatible with contact lenses.
- Has pH 7.2 – Compatible with tear fluid.
